Around most of my life as a father, I have found myself immersed in work—sometimes involving travel, and other times demanding long hours. Whether by my own choice or the demands of the job, these periods of professional dedication have undoubtedly left their mark on my relationship with my children. While I consider myself a good and involved father, the quest to grow deeper with my kids often felt elusive.

As a dad and husband, I believe there is no greater privilege than participating in the growth of my children, celebrating their successes and failures, and supporting my wife in her dreams. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, what does it truly mean to grow not just older and wiser, but deeper together as a family?

In a world that constantly bombards us with the notion of being everywhere at once, finding a space for genuine connection becomes crucial. For our family, that space is the dinner table—a sanctuary where we choose to grow deeper with each other once a week. Our journey of familial depth is guided by The Table Talk Project, providing us with healthy food, thoughtful conversation starters that spark dialogue and understanding and a check in to make sure when we leave the table we have assurance everyone is going to be ok.

Admittedly, family dinner time can be chaotic and occasionally frustrating. However, it’s during these moments that we learn, laugh, and truly connect. It’s not a mere ritual we perform for the sake of appearances; it’s a meaningful investment in the relationships that matter most to us.

Reflecting on my own childhood, I recognize the absence of such intentional moments with my parents, and the impact it had on our relationship—a dynamic that still lingers to some extent. The vision for my own family is clear—I want us to grow not just older but deeper with each passing day.

Consider a plant: its leaves are vibrant because of where it’s planted, the quality of the soil, and the water it receives. Similarly, a family’s growth requires the right environment, nurtured by shared experiences and meaningful conversations and support. The Table Talk Project has played a pivotal role in our journey, providing the fertile ground for our family to deepen its roots.

Our family, like a well-nurtured plant, continues to thrive as we grow deeper. The chaotic family dinners transform into a sanctuary of growth, fostering a healthier and more connected unit. I owe a debt of gratitude to The Table Talk Project for helping us navigate this path towards deeper family bonds.

In the end, it’s not just about growing up; it’s about growing deeper together—like the roots of a plant seeking sustenance and stability in the richness of the soil. The investment in family, in shared moments and intentional conversations, is the key to a flourishing and deeply connected life.
